The Great Road Trip, Day 1

After attending church in Tygan's sister's ward, we quickly packed up our car and Tygan's family helped us do the last of the cleaning in our apartment! It was definitely bittersweet to see our empty apartment. It reminded me of when we first moved in as newlyweds. Actually, a lot of this prices reminds me if when we were first married; attending graduation, planning a week-long vacation, moving, and all that jazz.

Finally, after the goodbyes were said and the leftover food was donated to younger siblings, we locked the door and took one last picture.

And then we remembered the road trip food in our fridge.

It took us a minute to track down our community aide, but she was really nice and let us back in to grab our snacks. And then we were ready to go!

We basically took a southeastern route thorough Utah. We thought about visiting Goblin Valley on the way, but it would have added another 90 miles or so to our schedule, so I guess next time. If works be pretty cool to see the hoodoos at sunset.

We didn't see any hoodoos, but we did find some plateaus! Yay rocks!

We definitely wanted to stop somewhere, though; we want to work in as many mini adventures as we can. So when we passed a sign that said the next exit would take us to "Floy", UT, we figured, why not. According to one blog, Floy is "not a small town or a ghost town, it is a 'no-town.'" We drove on a bumpy road for a bit, took a picture of some cows, and startled a couple cowboys we passed who were probably wondering what in the world our car was doing wandering down their little ranch road.

Cows! And that is all.

After that little jaunt, we continued straight down I-70 and enjoyed the lovely views. It was really stunning. I'm glad the weather was so nice for us today.

After driving for about 4 hours from Provo, we pulled into Grand Junction, CO. Tygan and I both think this is a nice place and wouldn't mind living in this area someday. It's just a few hours from Provo, Salt Lake, and Denver, and not too far from Boise either.

Anyway, our car worked well for our first day of travel and we still have a lot of road trip snacks left. I'd call that a win.
