Milwaukee

Back in May, Tygan planned a surprise little visit to Milwaukee for our family! It's about an hour and a half away from Madison, and it's been on our Wisconsin bucket list for a while.

First up: Panda Express! They don't have one in Madison, sadly, so we have to drive over an hour away to get our Panda fix!

In the afternoon, we toured the Milwaukee Art Museum. We'd been specifically wanting to check out this museum because it's mentioned in Levi's Goodnight Wisconsin book that we read every day for bedtime. It did not disappoint! They had a huge array of art, even for those of us who aren't well-versed in artsy things. They had contemporary art, and a design exhibit with some crazy-looking chairs, and some ancient art like Greek vases. I wish we could have spent more time there, but Levi was not a fan. It's super awkward to have a whining baby in a museum, so we moved kind of quickly. It was still a cool experience though, and maybe when he's older we'll go again and he can check out the children's section with crafts and stuff.

The museum was also where we got a good view of Lake Michigan.

At night we stayed at Hotel Metro, which Tygan found on Expedia. I liked that the Pack n Play they provided was nice and clean and came with a few blankets, and it even fit in the bathroom so we could have separate areas for ourselves and Levi.


Levi's favorite part was a little park we found nearby. He couldn't care less about the other sights, but he loooooves swingsets!

For dinner we tried out a spy-themed restaurant, The Safehouse, that we heard about from our friends. If you like cheesy themed things (MEEEEE) then you'd love this restaurant! When you enter, you're asked for the password, and if you don't know it, you need to complete a silly challenge to get in. The walls and ceiling are covered with spy paraphernalia, the servers use spy-themed phrases to take your order, and the dishes all have quirky spy names. You can walk around the restaurant and find interactive discoveries and facts about covert intelligence around the world and throughout history. Most of it is geared toward children, but apparently after 8:00 things get more "adult."

This was an awesome little family trip. I don't think I'd like to live in Milwaukee, but it was nice to visit and I hope we go again someday.
