Why Blog?

So now that we've made our blog public, you might be wondering what we even write here. It started out as a way to share information with our families, and I think that will be even more important once we move away. If you've looked back at our previous posts, though, it's kind of random. Sometimes it looks like I try to start a consistent kind of thing, and then it stops. That's just kind of the nature of our blog. I found a couple of other people's blog posts that help describe my approach:

I know that these days blogs are supposed to have a theme or a niche or some unifying feature. For the past seven months I've been trying to choose an angle: do I want this to be a lifestyle blog (whatever the heck that is)? A blog about living in Provo? A religiously-themed blog? A blog full of stirring essays about my deepest inner feelings? I have no clue. And while it's hard for me to choose a specific angle, I think the title of my blog provides the closest thing I've got to a unifying theme. -In Which I Am Alive

I do it for me. When a post has a motivational emphasis, it is usually because I need some motivating. When it is doctrinal, it is usually because it is something I am learning. When it is funny, it is because I need a laugh.

I do it for my family. I write so that my posterity will never, ever, be in doubt as to what I believe and what I stand for. -Middle Aged Mormon Man

Both of those blogs have been running longer than this one and have more of a unified purpose than this one, but I just pulled out those few statements that I feel apply here. Basically, this blog is like a fancy journal of mine; it's a lot easier to type than it is to write, and I can add photos from my phone. I'm not so good at sharing updates on Facebook, but this blog feels more like my own space.
