Three Years in the Life of Levi

Last Thursday Levi turned THREE YEARS OLD! We didn't do much for his birthday due to having a newborn and because of the coronavirus pandemic; we had planned to go to Chuck E. Cheese with some of Tygan's family, since that was his tradition for 3rd birthdays growing up. Instead we blew up some balloons at our house and threw them in Levi's crib with some streamers when we went to get him up in the morning, we baked a cake, sang "Happy Birthday," and opened some presents. It was extremely low-key compared to his previous birthdays, but I don't think Levi minded one bit. His priorities were 100% cake and presents.*

 

Levi has gotten louder and more active over the past year. He loves to narrate what he sees and ask questions. Earlier this year Tygan noted "he's sentient now!" as Levi has started being able to recall past events and use reasoning. (Tygan says this is actually his favorite age so far!) Levi likes his friends and preschool but is also content staying home as long as someone is playing with him. He hasn't seemed to reach "threenager" stage quite yet, although we are getting more and more of "but I don't want to!" and "but I want it!"

 

Growth & Development

• His 3-year well-child check-up has been postponed due to the pandemic, but when we took him in to get checked for an issue in January or February he was 27 lbs. (this seems low, I need to go double check)
• Clothing size: 2T-3T (slim)
• Diaper size: 5, 7 or 6-nighttime at night
• Running, jumping, even standing on one leg for half a second
• Talking often, about the past and future, mostly intelligible (to me), asking lots of questions, specially "What's in it?" "What's it called?" and "What's you making?" (when we're in the kitchen)
• Can name letters and numbers 1-10; can sign colors and the alphabet and most numbers 1-10
• Can technically dress himself with lots of verbal help but doesn't do it often
• Can climb in and out of his car seat
• Can do one-to-one counting up to 10

 

Likes

• Puzzles, Magnatiles, books, pretend food/kitchen, Water Wow drawing, stickers, Duplos
• Running around the living room ("dancing"), activity songs like "Shake Your Sillies Out" and "The Goldfish"
• Pointing out ABC's
• Bathtime
• Watching Storybots, Daniel Tiger, and Bluey
• Hot dogs, mac n cheese, peas, apples, pears, chicken nuggets, cake, berries, ice cream
• Going to storytime at the library, open play group at CI Therapies, friends' houses, children's museums, farms/orchards, the playground
• Building snowmen
• Holding Baby Hazel

• Getting dressed by himself
• Stopping playtime to go to bed
• Carbonated drinks ("It's spicy")

 

Fun Facts

• Sleeps with two blankies and Buh (his sock monkey) 8pm-7am most nights, and takes a nap from 1-3pm; still in his crib using a sleepsack but we recently took off one side of the crib
• Loved being a skeleton for Halloween and was absolutely giddy about receiving all that candy
• Doesn't mind when I cut his hair as long as he gets a lollipop and watches TV
• Started being interested in potty training a few months ago but I was too pregnant to try
• Loves to narrate everything he sees and does, and often says "That's fun!!" even to mundane remarks

*I also did his "chore" for him--clearing his place after mealtimes--and every now and then he'll ask me to do it again saying "It's my birthday!"
